Kathleen O’Neal and W. Michael Gear join host Dr. Schuldenrein on VoiceAmerica Talk Radio Network

Kathleen O’Neal and W. Michael Gear, best-selling authors of “The Broken Land” and award-winning writers on archaeological themes appear on Indiana Jones: Myth, Reality and 21st Century Archaeology. The program is hosted by Dr. Joseph Schuldenrein on VoiceAmerica’s Radio Network.
VoiceAmerica Talk Radio Network, Internet broadcasting pioneer, producing and syndicating online audio and video, will feature award winning archaeology authors on the USA Today bestseller charts and a variety of international venues. Kathleen O’Neal and W. Michael Gear joined Dr. Schuldenrein, host of Indiana Jones: Myth, Reality and 21st Century Archaeology radio program on the VoiceAmerica Variety Channel ( www.voiceamericavariety.com) Wednesday, May 2, at 3 p.m. Pacific Time.

Kathleen O’Neal and W. Michael Gear will discuss their latest book, The Broken Land, third installment in their renowned Iroquois quartet, which takes place in the northeastern woodlands of North America six hundred years ago. The volume is set against the backdrop of the nascent and remarkable League of the Iroquois alliance, unique in the annals of Native Americana.

Kathleen and Michael are known for their numerous novels on various documentary and anthropological themes focused on North American prehistory. They skillfully merge the latest archaeological finds with thorough dramatic narratives set within the unique landscapes and cultural settings that defined the Native American tradition. The authors shed light on Native American prehistory, history, and demographics. These topics are often paid short shrift in North American school classrooms. However, the present presentation is an attempt to alert the general public to these once flourishing and vibrant communities that emerged and blossomed (for millennia) in North America up until Euroamerican contact times (ca. A.D. 1500). The sites and settings our authors describe were every bit the equal as the dramatic settings associated with great civilizations and cultures found anywhere else in the world. As archaeologists and novelists O’Neal and Gear have made appearances on CNN, NPR, and they have been featured on “Greenroom” on PBS, as well as on local network features.

Bringing more than 50 year of combined archaeological experience to their writing, Spur Award winners Michael and Kathleen have carefully crafted fictional stories and narratives based on real archaeological evidence and ethnohistoric and ethnographic records. With over sixteen million copies of their books in print worldwide, their works have been translated into twenty-one different languages. They offer a unique window into the history and archaeology of North America through a contemporary literary medium.
