Dr. Schuldenrein and his guest Hampton Sides will
discuss the tragedy of Titanic’s sinking 100 years ago. We revisit the last
moments of Titanic and its passengers based on newly uncovered archaeological
and historic findings. Hampton Sides, best-selling author, journalist and
Americana expert, will join Dr. Schuldenrein, for a special edition of Indiana
Jones, Myth, Reality, and 21st Century Archaeology on the
VoiceAmerica Variety Channel (http://www.voiceamericavariety.com) on
Wednesday, April 4, at 3 p.m. Pacific
Time.
The maiden voyage of the RMS
Titanic was designed as the state-of-the-art technological seafaring vessel in
the first decade of the 20th century. Its fate has become the stuff
of myth as well as history, as the disaster took the lives of over a thousand
passengers. The Titanic’s fate symbolizes the failure of the age of
technological innovation, an era that gave us the airplane, motor car, and mass
communication. Hampton Sides will update us on the emerging story of Titanic
from its discovery by Robert Ballard in 1985 through updated discoveries by
underwater archaeology and remote sensing techniques. He presents new insights
that have come to light since the release of James Cameron’s epic Oscar winning
film broke box office records in 1997.
Hampton Sides is the author of numerous bestselling
works of narrative history and is an award-winning contributor to such
publications as Outside, National
Geographic, and The New Yorker.
In the light of 100-year anniversary of Titanic’s sinking, Mr. Sides
contributed an article “The Lights Are Finally On” to National Geographic
Magazine’s April issue, devoted to this remarkable event. He provides an
updated overview of recent discoveries and how they revise interpretations of
the wreck, which has captured the public imagination since the 1912 tragedy.
Join
Dr. Schuldenrein and his guest Hampton Sides, as they unravel the growing
record of the Titanic’s fate since the discovery of the wreck site in 1985.
What do the latest artifact records tell
us? What technologies have been mobilized to help us reconstruct the
time-line leading to the tragedy? What do we know now that we did not know
earlier and how can the lessons of the Titanic guide us in finding the
skeletons of other tragically fated nautical vessels?

Jones, Myth, Reality, and 21st Century Archaeology” airs live on
